What is Counselling?
Contrary to what many people think, the role of a counsellor is not to give advice or impose a set pattern of treatment. Instead, I will help you question the way you look at things, the way you behave or react to situations or people and I can also help you to develop new strategies for dealing with your own personal situation. I do this by getting to know you, developing an understanding of your circumstances, listening to what you have to say and by offering support and insight. Together, we seek to identify WHY you feel the way you do, and HOW you can learn to understand and ultimately control your feelings about the issues which are affecting you.
When can Counselling help?
While it can be really helpful to talk to someone you know and trust such as a close friend or family member, you may feel more comfortable confiding in someone who’s removed from your personal situation and is therefore more objective. Also, having a set time and an entirely safe place to talk may help you to work through the issues which are concerning you. Counselling is definitely worth considering when:
Often, the most difficult step to take when you feel you need help is accepting that you do actually need help, and taking steps to see someone who can provide it.
