Cathrine Saunders, Flautist and Teacher
Cathrine Scott combines her counselling practice with a long and distinguished career as a flautist and teacher, in which capacity she is known by her professional name of Cathrine Saunders.
After studying at Dartington College of Arts, she won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music, where she won the major Wind Prize. She won further scholarships to The Institute of Higher Musical Studies in Switzerland, and to the Royal Dutch Conservatorium, before becoming one of the very few British Fellows at Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. After appearing with most of the leading British symphony orchestras, Cathrine decided to concentrate on chamber music and solo appearances, and with her clarinettist twin sister, Helen Saunders Habershon, founded The English Virtuosi, a flexible group of leading wind and string players. They have given many concerts in London, around Britain, and in other countries of the world. Cathrine has also appeared as a soloist with many orchestras, including the New York Chamber Symphony, the London Chamber Orchestra, Silesian Philharmonic, and the Bournemouth Sinfonietta.
Cathrine can arrange concerts and recitals of all kinds, calling on her wide circle of friends and colleagues in the profession.
Her career as a teacher began with an appointment as a Professor at the Royal College of Music Junior Dept., and she has since taught at a number of leading public schools including Marlborough College and Millfield. She has coached numerous pupils to success in Grade 8 and Diploma exams, and in NYO auditions.
